Chocolate Silken Tofu SmoothieStorage
We prefer to make a smoothie and then drink it – as many smoothies start to separate or discolour if kept. But if you need to store it in a glass jar with a screw-top lid in the fridge for a few hours.
Banana free smoothie
We are often asked for banana free smoothie recipes and silken tofu is the perfect alternative. Silken tofu has no denotable flavour just a gorgeously smooth texture and lots of health benefits.
Why is tofu so good for us?
Everyone but we specifically created this smoothie as a quick, easy and tasty boost to our protein levels and to help reduce perimenopause symptoms.
We are including more tofu in our meals due to the phytoestrogen content. We have learnt that during perimenopause and post-menopause the levels of oestrogen in a woman’s body significantly deplete. Contributing to exacerbated perimenopause symptoms such as hot flushes (oh the joys).
The type of phytoestrogens in tofu are called isoflavones – these are found in plant-based food.
Tofu is derived from soy protein and is believed to help lower bad LDL levels of cholesterol.
Perimenopause & Menopause Support
We are not experts on perimenopause but we are drawing on our own experiences and the research being collated by amazing Doctors and nutritionists that specialise in the subject.
If you are looking for perimenopause and menopause support we’d highly recommend the Balance websiteand downloading the balance app – as it helps to reassure you that you aren’t losing your marbles and you are not falling to pieces. Packed full of information and can help you find the best way to approach your own doctor about your symptoms.
We love to use walnuts in smoothies, in our no-bake recipes and on the top of our porridge but you could easily use almonds, or 3 brazil nuts or 8 cashew nuts in the chocolate and silken tofu smoothie.
Just make a mental note to put walnuts on your shopping list. Walnuts have the highest content of the short-chain omega-3 essential fatty acid, alpha-lipoic acid (ALA), of all edible plants, making them a useful inclusion for those following a plant-focused diet.

It may be stating the obvious but we are fully aware that 1 smoothie with tofu in it isn’t going to solve every hormonal symptom. Think of it as one of many steps you can include in your day-to-day life. Along with appropriate exercise, good nutrition and not suffering alone that can make every day feel more positive.
